Where:

How much:
Donations are gratefully accepted. Please keep in mind that a single
yoga classes typically costs $10-15. Your donation allows me to continue
bringing yoga to our community!
What to bring: a yoga ("sticky") mat
(not a black exercise mat!). I also strongly recommend a cotton blanket
or big beach towel and two yoga blocks. All these items are available at
www.yogasupplies.com and at many
local chain stores, including Ross. Please be prepared to sweat: wear
light clothing (including a shirt that won't come over your head when
you bend forward) and bring something warmer for when you cool down.
About the class
This Iyengar-Ashtanga fusion class will
be dynamic, starting with about 45
minutes of often continual movement punctuated by held poses. The
remainder of the class will be devoted to relaxing and opening seated
poses, inversions, pranayama (mind-quieting breathing
techniques), and meditation. For people looking to build endurance,
strength, and a greater understanding and awareness of their bodies and
minds.
Beginners will be encouraged to
modify poses to match their current abilities, while ongoing students
will learn options to take them deeper into both the physical and mental
aspects of their practice.
The focus of this class
will be an exploration of our bodies' capabilities, learning to trust and
respect their inherent knowledge of what's good and right for optimum
health and physical ease. There will be an emphasis placed, within each
student's individual capability and goals, on toning and increasing
openness, and on use of the breath as a means to find balance,
tranquility, self-knowledge, and emotional poise.
Please note
These classes are for generally healthy people with no acute
(i.e., just happened) or chronic severe health issues. For example, if
you have a herniated disc or other spinal injuries or a recent joint
replacement, these classes would not be appropriate for you unless
you've done yoga before and know how to modify for your particular
limitation. However, if you're just overweight or out of shape, that's
OK! Come on over and let's get you started.
About Yang yoga
Yang yoga, as opposed to its equally valuable Yin cousin, is a heating,
dynamic, strengthening type of practice. Challenge yourself to build
strength and stamina so you can live life more fully and eliminate or reduce
pain. Then enjoy some relaxing, opening poses designed to erase stress
and bring things into perspective.
